    Bronze IAB/yes or no

I got this bage from the same place as the minesweeper I posted last week. There is no makers mark but I have heard that is common. What worries me is the bubbled texture on the back of the badge. Is this another sign of a cast copy, similiar to the pitting on the silver PAB I posted awhile back?

This is the reverse, I'll try for a better picture of the front later today.

      Hi Greg,

Very interesting IAB. Really would like to see sharper pics of it. Not only the set-up but the complete aging pattern and texture remind me a lot of this massive "Porsche" PAB. The only such PAB variant I have ever seen.

PS: The bubbling is not to be compared with pitting. Those bubbles are quite commonly encountered on zinc badges and are also a good sign because it would be very difficult if not impossible to copie this phenomenon.

        Thanks Phillipe,

I am really struggling with taking adequate pictures. Here are some more. By the way what do you mean by "Porsche". Is this a reference to a possible maker?

This is the clasp, however it's a bad picture.

                Hi Greg,

How could I have not recognized it. It's one of the best designed IAB's ever made. Think I'm going to call it the Porsche IAB (sorry Frank )

Greg the Porsche PAB is just my invention to refer to the best PAB ever made by an unknown maker.

When you take a look at this thread you'll find it's late war brother. When you follow the link in that thread you'll find Mike's earlier example which features the identical small base hinge as on yours.

There is one easy way to immediately spot this variant when you look at it from the reverse. As far as I know it's probably the only IAB that continues with the outlining of the K98 in the cut-out between eagle and swas. This detailing probably also explains why the cut-out on this variant is more spacious then on other IAB's.

Here are also two examples with different set-ups that I'm expecting.

O.K. that helped clarify the "Porsche" question, and the link has certainly helped in my education. Now I need to know if what I paid was a reasonable price. What would you say was a decent price? I know on many dealers sites the price for the bronze IAB can vary greatly between $80.00 and 225.00. I paid 110Euro for this badge and the minesweeper I posted last week. This was a good deal I am assuming?

                      Hi Guys,

Just wondering. Could you all take a good look at your hollow buntmetall IAB's to see if you find something that matches this design. Somehow I'm confident that a hollow variant has to exists.

@Greg, €110 for the both of them? That was a very good deal IMO.

Thanks Phillipe, I have been burned pretty often so far in my young collecting career, and it's nice to know I finally got some authentic pieces at a very good price. Thanks for all the info, this site is awesome!
