Early Hollow Back PAB - F&R?

    Hi Everybody,

Here's this weekend's find for your opinions. I believe it to be a nice, early example of a Frank & Reif PAB. I've tried to show the badge really close up, so that you can see where the base metal peeks out from behind the plated finish. The badge also retains much of its final silver finish.

Well, I hope you all like it. All being well, no bad news to come.

    Thanks for looking.

    Best regards,
    Toby.

    And here's a close-up of the eagle:

Incidentally, the badge weighs in at, 14.6g

Another result this weekend was a set of digital scales for £15 (about $25)!!! And yes, they work!

          Toby,
Nice one! Was this off of Winkler's site?

              Chet, Don,

I'm glad to hear you both like it. I managed to find it at a UK militaria fair (Farnham). A pleasant surprise, and nice end to the day (I got it late afternoon, long after the preview).

              Toby.

                Great find Toby.

A quality PAB with the rather rarely encountered roundwire catch in very good condition

                  Nice badge Toby.
Looks like everybody else forgot to say it but yes, correct, it is IMO a hollow F&R. Phil?

                    Morning Skip,

For now the best thing is to refer to these PAB's as F&R. However I'm confident that there was at least one other maker involved here. There exist 8 different variants on the same theme and that simply is to much for one maker. At the moment I have my own theory but still need a bit more evidence. As soon as I find the missing link I'll start a thread on the subject.

                      Skip, Philippe,

Thanks for commenting and glad you like it. I think it's one of the nicest PAB's I've had (alas still no Porsche PAB through my hands).

And Philippe, your thoery has me intrigued. I look forward to reading about it.

                      All the best,
                      Toby.
