    Doubtful PAB 25

    Hello all,

please see this PAB 25 which is offered in an auction.

I have my doubts that it is original.

Just to name some issues: The numbers, especially the "2"....the gun is to thick, on reverse the rivets, the needle is not ok IMO.....maker mark not good....and many more issues.

    Your opinion is much appreciated.

    Thanks & kind regards

    Martin

        Hi Martin,

IMO this is original PAB,the digits in number box received little hit this is why they slightly deformed, looks like tank received some hit as well and possibly repainted/retouched at some point,or just a picture shows strange appearance of the tank finish.

Not one that I am comfortable with.

            the pin looks wrong too

it seems to have a ridge or extra material on the lefthand side as we look

The badge which started this thread in post number 1 is an original.

If you do not believe me then look at the following

1/ area around the catch is classic for this maker = original
2/ eagles head & top of wings = original
3/ shape and position of the "JFS" = original
4/ detail on the acorns = original
5/ type of silver plating used on the eagle & wreath = original
6/ "25" in box is correct shape = original
7/ size and shape of the tank = original

The tank clearly has zinc pest corrosion which has been touched up on the obverse with grey paint but it is still an original because you do not get zinc pest on the fakes like that showing the tan/ sand colored reaction seen clearly on the reverse.

Would love to know the weight and measurements but based on those photos there is no doubt,

              Chris

I would agree with Chris. Looks good to me too(just the hook seems replaced).

                Regards,

After having another look at it, I am willing to change opinion. The badge looks OK to me.

Good point Daniel, I like the pin but I can not say about the hook without a hands on inspection. The hooks on this type of numbered PAB are often broken so a replaced hook is always a possibility that one should check.

                    Many thanks, Chris

The poor tank at least received dozens of hits.

It perfectly match the badge on page 700 and 701 in book two of Panzer assualt badge by Philippe De Bock

                            Hello all,

thanks so far for your contributions and opinions. Very interesting to see the different opinions about a badge!!

Nevertheless, my doubts are not taken away, I´d like to point out in detail what exactly I mean.

I made an image with two Pab next to each other, the right one is the PAB in question, put them next to each other to see both close together.

Then I pointed out with the red lines the "ares" which I don´t like most:
The edges along the red lines on the tank are very soft IMO, and I don´t think this is caused by damages during a fight or other violence made to the badge.....one can find these soft details all over the badge, even on the leaves/accorns.

Also I pointed out the areas of the numbers I dislike.

                            Thanks again!!

                            KR
