Isn't it possible......
......that in light of our conversations concerning other badges with different charachteristics, attributed to the same maker(in this case the unresolved BH Mayer question), that this could be the case with the image of the BSW marked IAB that George posted? Could it be a variant of BSW?
I really don't know that it is a variant or not, but it looks like a good badge on the monitor. When I first looked at it I thought how nicely they had gotten the zinc streaks and absorption to look on a fake.
Perhaps this is a example of post-war manufacture, made for the G.I. souvenir market? Maybe a unknown maker badge with a phony mm applied at a later date?
At this point, I would agree with Frank that another, closer look should be taken at this IAB of George's.

I think George´s badge is a Wernstein with Wernstein variant hinge. The original badge is for some reason stamped BSW. That´s all I can say. Looking at the finish alone (stripey zinc fading) makes me disbelieve that this is a fake.

I thought the same thing about the streaky finish...usually a characteristic of a good zinc badge w/ slight deterioration to the finish. My vote is "real" too...although I have no explanation for the MMComment

Note that it has a small and poorly formed catch - I've seen these sold on major dealer sites as genuine.
