Looking for some help with this PAB

Here is another one that I am looking at and wanted to get a few opinions on.
It is an Assmann PAB that weighs in at 11.6 grams which is around the weight of the one listed in the PAB book for a cupal variety.

What is your verdict on this badge? The weight is kinda throwing me off, abit light.

P.110 stated 10-12 g. So IMO 11.6g is not a problem.
Please larger photos next time.

Hi Rob,

Looks very nice from the small pics and I agree with Kwen that the weight is good for the rarer cupal version. I like it, can you get any larger photos?

I will get better photos when I can for sure. It did not look like a cupal one at first glance to me. But then again, I am still learning.

Thanks, like I had stated earlier in the thread its weight would suggest it is cupa (11.6g)l. Looking at the edge I cant spot any tell tale signs. Just wanted to get some more opinions on it simply because it is a scarce variety.

Hi Rob,

Beautiful original Assmann in great condition. Nice closeup pics too, exactly what I would want to see on an original assmann, looks textbook.

Looks like zinc to me, I can see absolutely no signs of it being cupal. The weight is a tad light, but the zinkers are known to range from 12 to 18 grams, so yours is not very far out at 11.6g.

Thanks Tom. I was wondering about it. It is not too light that I think I should be concerned. Well all the same I still dont have an assmann Pab so it is still one I plan on snatching up.

Hi Rob,

I too wouldn't be worried at all about the weight. Out of the 3 physical attributes of a badge (heigh/width, magnetics & weight), I count weight as the least important. The weight seems to fluctuate the most with original badges, and is sensitive to the type of materials used and how thick the base metal was BEFORE it was struck. This varies a lot and throws the weights off quite a bit between originals, so not a big deal in my opinion compared to the other aspects such as height, width and what is magnetic on the badge.

I don't think its a zinc variant, the details are much better, sharper than on zinc Assmann PABs, for example on the talons, the shape of the swastika is also a bit different of a cupal and a zincer Assmann..
