    War-time vs. Post-war Souval PABs

What are the characteristics that distinguish the post-war Souval PABs from the legitimate wartime issue PABs?

    Hi Andrew,

Based upon my experience with RS PAB's there are 2 die flaws that every original should feature independently from set-up or type of maker mark.

I'll share one and keep the other to myself just incase a bad guy would manage to copy this flaw.

Like with any flaw it probably developed over time so I don't exclude that there exist early RS PAB's without it but from the many I handled I never have seen on without it.

It's to be found on the inner feather row of the right wing.

        Philippe,

I checked my bronze RS PAB and it does infact have this same die flaw! Good eyes you have there..I never would have noticed such a small detail I guess thats why they call you the PAB expert!

          help me understand something..

According to lore, the Souval company retained the original obverse dies, but the reverses were confiscated or destroyed leading to variant maker marks, and the typical fake Souval catch.

With this in mind, and also considering that I have never heard of Souval making new dies for their re-pops..

How would a die flaw be usefull in detecting postwar fakes if they used to original dies?

Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997

Mark is right, the flaw can also be found on fake Souval PABs, such as this one shown before by Den:
