I picked up a small group of items and most were good, but there were a couple of turds in the group. This always cast a doubt in my mind. As you can see the pin is missing, but I have found this many times on bring back badges. All the original finish is gone. These are out of my normal scope so any help would be appreciated.

It looks like a good a type 1.2, but the details are very soft in certain areas, I'm not sure if this is wear, a poor strike, over hand finishimg, or signs of a repro. The catch does look correct, as well as the hinge plate impression.
Clearer pictures would be nice, but I would say it's ok.

Here are the additional photos for reference. The face of the skull appears to have worn down from wear. I have been told by several vets in the past that the reason for the broken pin / catches is many of them were "quickly" stripped from the uniforms of the surrendered soldiers so this may back up the fact this one was actually worn and not from a supply depot.Attached Files

Hi Paul,
This one looks perfectly fine to me too. Too bad about the missing hardware, but the base metal, details and the catch are all what I would expect to see from an original latewar APB.
TomIf it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a littleNew Book - The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II
