            Didn't we......

......just recently have a comment made about marks like these that are seemingly from a flat stamp as opposed to stampings that were designed to fit the curvature of the pin. With the suggestion that the ones from the flat stamping are questionable?

Enlighten me please as to which style is now considered the correct manner of pin stamping.

Always eager to expand my knowledge base.

                  Dear Bruce,

First, it wasn´t MY comment about the flat L/18 stamp. Although I do change my mind sometimes, I do not put something down here and buy it for me the next day.

This is the typical L/18 stamp used on a lot of their items and it seems they just did not feel the need to create another curved one for pins. This is my take on it.
                  Cheers, Frank

                      Hallo Frank H,

your IAB has the same catch and hinge like my L/18 marked GAB ( in this Thread http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=l%2F18 )

but the IAB that philippe show us and a other pice in this thread (http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=L%2F18) has a different catch and hinge. Good to see the same "Nadelsystem" like my one on a other batch with the same mark. But I hope not to many other "Nadelsystems" with this mark will be found next time

                      Schönen Gruß

                        Dear Frank......

......I assure you that my intention was not to accuse you, or anyone for that matter, of duplicitous postings.

As I mentioned above, I am genuinely curious to find out about the differences observable in maker's marks applied to pins as these differences will have a direct effect on my decision making process should I encounter one on a badge or award that I would be likely to purchase. My sole interest is learning something from what seems to be controversial.

Here is the link for the thread that came up.......my apology for not doing my homework and posting this above and for the confusion it seems to have caused:

                          Dear Frank,

Just back from my own little Ardennes offensive and glad to hear that I didn't miss to many good PAB's in Illingen .

This is really and extremely interesting IAB you picked up my friend and for many more reasons then you might think.

First of all it's not the exact same layout as the L/18 IAB discussed in the above mentioned thread but it's very very close.

After discussing the L/18 IAB's it took me a while to see that one of my IAB's that I also thought was a hollow buntmetall L/18 IAB in fact showed very small differences when compared to the ones in the above mentioned thread.

The most distinctive of the small differences beeing the right inner claw on the eagles left paw. On your frosted examples as on mine the nail isn't crooked but runs completely parallel with the inner claw on the right paw.

Another distinctive feature is the die flaw (or is it a design feature) on the right oakleave branch.

I will first post an obverse scan of my buntmetall IAB. If we all agree that this badge is a match to Frank's L/18 we can continue from there because this badge IMO has a lot more to tell besides th fact the BH Mayer used two very similar IAB design's.
