    Two PAB´s

    Hi guys,

I could use a little help regarding these two. The first one is a S&L PAB, with some production flaws(poor strike), as mentioned in de Boeks PAB book,

the other is a F&R with some funny looking setup.

    Thoughts are much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Daniel

The 1st one looks to be made during an air raid? When the bombs get closer, I'm sure the workmanship got a little sloppier...

I'm surprised the "Ali" finish withstood the high temp for the re-welded hinge assembly...

Imo it is not resoldered, looks more like the use of massive soldering fluid to me.

Well, if you already knew the answer, why post for comments? Why not just say this is what it is? Anyway, atleast you got to give the makers of these badges credit, they were the originals... Beware of those "made in Taiwan" copies.

Well the eagle head on the first one looks awfull but its still a original PAB
And the second one is also a good one IMO

                    Hi Daniel,
I think they are both good, its amazing how the first one got through quality control and the 2nd must have been soldered by a new apprentice

Hi Daniel,i see no problems with either of those PAB's,S&L is actually common to see production mistakes on late examples.

I can second that. The portion of the book that shows examples of these show some of the ugliest ones produced. I cant help but think that many may not have even been issued due to the poor results.

I also think that those wore never issued or awarded, they wore probably in the pile of badly manufactured badges, that was found as such after the war.

                            Hi Daniel,

I agree with the other guys, the S&L badge looks perfectly legit, but with some significant flaws that appear to be from a bad trim job.

The F&R also looks fine to me, but just some really sloppy soldering.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I remember quickly glancing over that section when I first got my books. I think I remember seeing one with a huge slit that split the eagles head in two along with one that had the eagles beak trimmed off.
