    Ges Gesch

    Hi all,

I just wanted to ask a question about the "GES GESCH" marking that is on many
of the Third Reich badges and insignia, etc.
It was my understanding, that when a piece had "GES GESCH" on it,
that meant that the manufacture held the patent for the design
of that piece. However, I am confused because I have seen several items
that are basically identical, but have different maker's marks and they both have "GES GESCH" on them. For example, I saw a Nazi Red Cross EM belt buckle that was marked "OLC GES GESCH" and I just saw another one that was marked "JFS GES GESCH" How and why is this?
    Thanks! Chris

    Hi Chris

I was told this means patent pending

"GES GESCH" is an abbreviated form for the German words "Gesetzlich geschutzt" which in English literally means "protected by law". In other words, as George has correctly suggested I believe, "patent pending".
