    Little help...

I have a GWL IAB. The doc says it isn't serious, and I can have it removed, or not.

Seriously, who is maker "GWL"? I find a "Gottlieb & Wagner Ldar/Oberstein" in the LDO chart, but I believe there is a typo there? Should it not be "Idar"?

I searched the archives for the answer but it's always referred to as simply maker "GWL".

So, guys, for what does "GWL" stand?

    Thanks!

    GWL

    hello ,

The GWL stands for Gebruder Wegerhof / Ludenscheid +> this is a known maker of IAB and it is a very characteristic badge.

Can you post pictures of it ? , if we can see these we can say for sure if it is a good one or a fake

    Friendly greetings,

        GWL - IAB

        Hello Ralph,

THanks for showing the pictures , ( to bad they are a little on the dark side ) , i think you have a good example of original GWL maker marked IAB .

Is it possible that it is a silver one ? , i like the hinge + pin attachement ( however it would be a lot easyer if we had clear pictures ) , etc ... these GWL products are very typical and in my opinion very nice pieces.

        Friendly greetings,
my collectionfield : German glider pilots

Thank you. Sorry for the lousy scans.

Yes, it's silver, with nice remnants of the wash to front, and a very heavy patina overall that I refuse to remove.

Hinge and catch are all one-piece with the badge itself. Pin is non-magnetic. Very slightly vaulted.

          Cheers,

          Ralph

Couldn't see them the first time either.

Anyway, I believe your GWL is a copy.
                      Kind regards,

                              Greetings

I think your badge is a bad one due to the apparent lack of detailing, but this could be due to your bad pics. The catch is definitely bad.

                              regards
