    Wurster GAB Tombak Opinions

I'd love to get some opinions on this GAB. It seems to be OK compared to the Huekemes book, and the examples on the forum.

    Are these faked?

From a far, this one has potential. The finish is a bit odd... But that could just heavy patina or photo lighting

I'd also be interested to see the spot where it looks like a chunk is missing (reverse just above eagle on left). Overall, if you can get close-up pictures, that will help.

In general though, you have to assume EVERY badge is faked, and go from there

Additional photos. It is very hard to capture the actual color of the badge. It looks close to copper in hand.

This one has me scratching my head a little bit. Although are are some aspects that look good, I'm kind of turned off by the detail of the face, especially the mouth. Obviously the finish is the biggest odd ball. But the hardware looks decent.

I'd have to see what the community has to say, as I haven't seen one like this before. In the meantime, do you have a weight and measurements?

This one has an identical patina to the gab that is on that SS uniform at the SOS that we keep trying to pry out of that dealer...Tom and Chad know that one

                Regards,
                Chris G.

Wait a sec, I think you're right! That face looks odd though, maybe due to wear? If this one is legit, it would have to be the second pattern tombak.

By the way, those are some great close-up pics.

It looks good, has it been painted or is it my dodgy computer screen making it look that way?

                        Hi guys,

I like this one too, hardware looks perfect for a Wurster. The black finish is definately weird, almost like someone painted the damn thing for some reason. I don't know of any good fake Wursters and this one looks good to me despite the black finish.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Seems to have been painted...why? Who knows...people are always fooling around with the finish on some badges. Like as mentioned by most on here...seems to be original enough.

Great photos by the way...sure makes it easier to decide on.

                          Cheers,

                          Glen

Perhaps it's been blued. Did these guys ever try to subdue their badges so they didn't sparkle in the sunlight and give them away, perhaps?

Almost looks like gun bluing to me.
