    HelloGentlemen,

I have asked the permission from the seller to (Killjoy) if he would allow the APB fromthe E-Stand tobe posted for discussion in the appropriate forum, and he was more than happy to allow me to post his pics.

Please share any thoughts, look forward to hearing your thoughts.

    Best,

          Hello Gentlemen,

Sorry for getting back to this thread so late. I am surprised that no one has had any comments.

I would first say, that I would like to see some better pics of the example posted as the perspective from the angle of the photos is giving two different perspectives of the skull for starters. I am not certain but the piece also looks to be over contrasted in whatever photo editing program that was used. Not intentional, I will be the first to say that taking digital pics and having them come out true to life can be pain staking.

The reason for the request to have the piece posted on an open forum was to have the seller as well as any potential buyers best interests put forward.

The concerns that I have with this example are design and finish Vs period in which the type of finish was used as well as base medal composite.

I am always willing to be corrected and have a very open mind, so I hope this thread is a good one with some productive input.

          Here are my issues with Killjoy's example;

          - The first point of reference that jumped off the page for me was the symetry of the skull and semi-soft details for a solid back example. The skull is too square.

          - The base metal composite appears to be monkey medal/ kreigsmedal, not really sure because of the picture quality.

          - The finish should be a matt texture given the base medal, if I am correct. The finish has a mirror look to it as if plated, which was never used. If the base medal is of the above mentioned medium a lacquer finish or wash would have been the material used and have a very different look, such as a dull matt finish.

          - The texture of the piece's base medal looks hand cast to me as while the details are present, they are soft and have that look of a hand cast piece, weights and measurments would help.

          - The area right under the circle which encompasses the sunwheel as well as the second hydra on the lower left depict the above mentioned observations.

The points that I have mentioned are just a few obvious observations. I would not say this example is wrong until better pics are provided. This is one of my favorite badges and I am well aware of all the controversy.
So, my opinion is only one. I know that we have at least five members that are well versed in the APBs and look forward to hearing how we compare notes.

I have borrowed some pics from other members that I have in my archival files, if their is any issue with me posting any members pics, please advise and they will be removed. These pics were from an earlier thread and all the examples posted were agreed to be original.

          Best,
          JD

Notice the base medal and details , these are all flat back examples, forgot to mention that, sorry.
