    Hi Guys
I think this thread is a typical example of how confusing discussion based upon picture posting can become.

I was just preparing my respons to Marks statement, quoted by Frank in his last respons. However not to disagree but to completely agree with him.

I'll post to oakleave details of the JFS that clearly show how thick the chrome like finish is applied and is indeed completely obscuring all details. The "tear drop" like concentration on the top off almost every oakleave on this badge would almost lead me to believe that it was hung up side down to dry. As a result the finish migrated a little and was stopped by the oaks outer edges.

So as far as I'm concerned for sure not a thiny applied finish. And here things get difficult. I also have in my collection a couple of PAB's like the Aurich, the A.S (posted earlier) and a Zimmermann (like the one posted by Greg) with chrome like finish. And when it comes to these badge I agree with Frank. The finish is a thin very shiny layer that would easily wear off. But non of these badges have the exact same finish as the JFS.

I didn't try it but I'm damn sure that even with a steel brush you would have a hard time to get the finish off the JFS. It's just not the same. Problem is I can't show it by posting pics you really have to take my worth for it.

Anyway Frank I'm sure we will meet again one of these days and I'll make sure to have the JFS with me for you to see the difference compared to the PAB's

I'll post two scans now of the JFS's oakleaves and I hope these give you an idea of the finish concentration in the upper part of the oakleaves that I tried to describe above.

    KR
    Philippe

Philippe, trust me, that finish on your JFS is the same as on my AS PAB and my RK PAB. I agree Aurich and Zimmermann finishes are thinner and somehow different. But AS, RK and JFS all fall into the same class.
        Cheers, Frank

          Dear Frank,

As I suggested above, lets continue this discussion with the badges in hand over a couple of beers, in the near future I hope

While y'all are drinking that Bier (or Bière, depending on where you meet), don't forget to let us poor benighted collectors in the States hear what you figure out!

FYI, the finish on my "chromey" Zimmermann PAB above is thin, not like what you show on the JFS IAB, Philippe. Look at the eagle feathers on my PAB; it has worn some.

            Regards,
            Greg

              Dear Greg,

It may take us a while before we meet again but you can count on it

Since I'm living in Flanders it will be "Bier" wherever we meet. When are you guys ever going to learn that more than 60% of Belgium speaks Dutch and not French

                Dear Philippe,

Yes of course, I was going to write Bier/Bier/Bière to cover Germany, Flanders and Wallonie, because I thought perhaps you just might meet up in the Ardennes; maybe in La Gleize to see that beautiful Tiger tank! Enjoy wherever!

                Best regards,
                Greg

                  Dear Greg,

Thanks for the tip. My wife planned a WE in the Ardennes next month, just at the same moment of the Illingen show I was planning to go to . Think I compensate that by visiting the museum in La Gleize.

Philippe, take that weekend with your wife on june 20, you can visit the militaria fair in La Gleize, maybe your wife will get so interested in badges that she 'll start collecting too.

                    Regards. Den
