    Sniper badge opinions welcome

Whilst we know that this is a heavily faked badge, any opinions of this specimen would be welcomed. Many thanks, Jeff

Not original, stitching, coloring, etc; is bad.

I personally like that type but many others don't. The pattern of the eagle and the stitching is correct but it is the type of backing material that is controversial. The wholly accepted ones are on a grey felt type cloth backing rather than this form of field grey wool. There are many copies on the market but the form you have turns up infrequently IMO which is a good sign. It will come down to what you feel happy with as any resale will be difficult.

Sorry guys, the stitching is not correct, to known original examples. It simply apes it....and again, the color and material is wrong. I have seen these sold as reproductions locally, in quantity, for years.

If you are thinking about investing in a Sniper Badge like this, you better have some deep rooted faith.

            Just my 2 cents.

Obviously these badges/patches are a difficult subject. I collected sniper items for a couple of years and also had the Josef Weissinger group ones.
A real "known original" I have never come across in my time though. Many old snipers either had received no badges or had acquired postwar examples later on. Then these postwar examples actually turned up in sniper biographies as well, making them "legit".
In the end the sniper badge in wear photo is still missing.
Bear in mind that these were not produced by one manufacturer only as well.

Personally I have always like these, but am also fond of the ones with the "thinner" eagle.

Precisely why I would NEVER touch one even with a 10 ft pole.
You could get 100 opinions on most and they would always go 50/50. Not good enough odds for spending this kinda dough.

                  Sniper badges are always difficult
Is there anybody who can post a 100% original?

Here are the badges from the Weisinger group. I personally prefer this backing on an original. The badge that started the thread are very close , but as stated the backing , with the very woolly fabric, is questionable. You find similar cloth on fake ss schirmutse as well. Jacques

I will conclude by saying, if your investing in a sniper badge, and it does not look like the example(s) 'Jacquesf' has posted, you are better to save your money.

I have handled an original example identical to one posted by 'Jacquesf', and pawed through and examined (and purchased one for $14.99 as filler) over a dozen of the ones that started this thread.

The one posted is an original period made piece imo.

As for the ones jacquesf posted, if I didn't know what he was trying to scan/photograph I wouldn't be so thrilled. Those are terrible scans and very misleading. I mean that in the best way possible, please dont take offense.

Is there anybody who can post a 100% original?
Check out the new book published. I have several examples pictured that are textbook Andy.
