    Phillipe:

Im curious. Have you been purchasing these modified PABs from established collections or dealers? I presume you found them in Europe? Any history on the your AS? Does it have any provenance?

In fact, does anybody have an explanation or had discussions with vets explaining the origin and purpose of these modified PABs? Quite fascinating to say the least.

    And again, thanks for sharing.

      Hi Dylan,

I'm afraid non of these badges have any provenance, the AS came together with a mint Aurich and the remains of what once was an LDO PAB packet. I won the little grouping at a recent militaria auction in Hamburg.

I also find it strange that non of the other members seem to have any vet aquired info on the existance of these badge. The fact that I was able to find 9 pictures of this modification in wear over a period of less then 12 months somehow would indicate that this was a common practice.

If there are people who still know panzer crew vets it would be interesting to bring this up and see if any of them have any recollection in relation to these modifications.

Only based upon the uniforms of the guys in the pictures there seems to exist no link between them. Who knows if everybody keeps an eye open for more photographic evidence one day we might be able to find some answers.

        Congrats Philippe .

Exceptional nice and rare example. Always better to get something when you don't expect it, isn't it?? .
