Superb piece..looks good to me...but I do not think it is bronze...look on the back where the silver frosting remains on much of the reverse that has not been polished etc...maybe the bronze is a patina from nicotine or something?

        Hi Joey,
This is just a silver flak badge that has lost it's finish on the obverse. You can still see traces of silver finish on the reverse. Besides, there was no "bronze" flak badge.

I think it's a superb badge with a lovely toned finish to the original silvering.

                Great find!

                  Flak Badge

Hi Richard I have the badge in my hand and am not going to say it is bronze without knowing its bronze.I know they where supposed to be in silver only but I believe this one went through a stag in production it was never meant to go through, mix up in the factory perhaps?I will try to show more photos for comparison,Please believe me this is bronze.Regards Joey.

It is a zinc badge that was plated bronze. The bronze plating was then in turn silver plated. Bronze is often used as a "glue' in plating.

                      Nice piece, Ed

                        Ed,
I could be wrong and will stand corrected but this process that you're referring to... was it not a copper plate and then the silver finish applied on that, and not bronze?

Bronze will work. Not as well as pure copper though. It's more than likey an alloy Tombak? type. Any thing to save a buck or should I say a mark.

Joey, You have nice original piece but at one time that badge had a finish. Or, It also could have been a piece that was never finished before the end of the war. Or, it was made immediately post was for the G.I. market from left over stock.
