              Hi Chuck

              Thats a real nice badge, one of the most detailed you will find among the halfhollows and much rarer than the Type1 thats usually found with a banjoshaped pin. I have seen BKA's in boxes like these so IMO its quite possible they belong.

              if possible I would love to see a scan or super closeup of the swaz area!

                  Great looking badge Chuck. Congratulations.

                  Do Vaseline treated badges return back to the dull/flat zinc color after time? If so, how long? I am sure this has been covered before.

                  Thomas - Here is a close-up of the swastika area on my BKA swastika if you are looking for examples. It's the same type half hollow needle BKA as Chuck owns.

                    Are these vaseline treatments work with the kiregsmarine badges too which has golden finish?

                      Vasaline treatments will not harm the finishes of the badge you choose to treat. Letting the badge sit for two or three days is best. Then you want to wipe it clean and use a soft bristle brush and dish detergent under hot water to get it clean and free it of the greasy residue. Dry it carefully and you will be quite pleased with the results.

                        Chuck: Wouldn't use warm water but rather use a temperature as close to the badge temperature as possible. This is due to metals expanding in heat and vise versa. This expansion can cause finnish to fall of, whisch is why museums keep their stuff at same temp allways and if that isn't possible make sure that theres norapid changes in temp.

                        Jeff: Yours got the dots on the cranium? I asked chuck because I didn't see the dieflaw below the swaz on his badge!

                          Thanks Chuck for the great information. I was tempted but never risked doing that to a zinc badge as a preservation technique. You can't go any riskier than what you did.

                          Hi Thomas - I have not shown this badge on WAF before, but here is a little tease. I don't have a super close-up, but here is the cranium. I do believe this is a gold BKA.

                              Hi Chuck. Is this the method you used to clean this APB, which, in my opinion is vastly improved? If it is not can you detail how you did clean it. Great result.
