    BKA ~ Massive Tombak

I believe that this is an altered Souval BKA made of tombak,....HOWEVER, the skull is different as are a couple of other things.

What do the experienced BKA collectors think?

    Regards,

    Chuck

Fake and these were not made in tombak during the war.

      Reverse:

As you can see, there is a fairly heavy silver plating over the entire badge. Where it is worn you can plainly see tombak.

Has anyone another of this particular type that they can show?

          Hi Chuck,

I agree with Don that this is not a wartime original. It does look very similar to the fakes Souval pumped out, but its not exactly the same. The obverse details are slightly different and a bit weaker on your example.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Not even close to an original (if you belive in these types of BKA's in the first place)

Believe it or not but this fake came out of England in the 80's.

I do not expect this example to be real but it does differ greatly from anything that I have seen before and it is completely different from post war examples made by Souval (skull, leaves, swastika, snake details, hardware, etc.), or war time examples made by Juncker.

If there is one example of these, then there should be more out there, yet I have not been able to find another example like this one on our forum, or elsewhere for that matter.

Another thing about this one is that it is definately die stamped as it is not a casting.

                    Dennis,

Well I can certainly believe that as a possibility since so many decent fakes come from there!

They are common, bad fakes. I recommend starting with the in depth tutorial about the flat back BKA's that can be found on the German Combat Awards BKA forum.

I hope you pulled this listing, and did not sell this as original:

VERY interesting,...but not offered by me, and I can assure everyone that it won't be offered by me for sale or as an original badge. I picked this up in a trade last weekend and took it in a last minute decision in order to seal the deal. I don't have any cash into it but agreed to accept it so that I could study it.

My thanks to all for participating. Perhaps this could be added to the fake section?

                            Regards,

                            Chuck
