    GAB Bronze

    Hi,
can anyone tell me why this Buntmetall GAB has a bronze finish ? It shows a bit of wear at the front and it has really a bronze finish and it is not the pure Buntmetall. What happened ?!
    Best Regards,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

    My best guess:

Somebody found a very worn silver buntmetall GAB exposing the bronze base alloy and repainted it believing that based upon what he saw it once was a bronze badge

From the photos, that sure is one helluva nicely detailed strike.
            Best regards,

Like I stated Mark it's just a guess even B. Shea had a bronze GAB on his site a couple of months ago and he seemed convinced it was ok.

Maybe Alex could post some larger pics of it

Hi Alex, I have in my collection the same GAB like yours, it looks so that it is bronze too, but when I inspected it, I founded remains of silver finish.Persanally I think this type of GABs has not firm silvering only and it is not a bronze grade.

Here you can see where the finish is gone and where you can see the basic material Buntmetall

Hi Secter in my opinion it strange and senselessly to finish the badge, which made from bronze alloy, by bronze cover. Sorry I am sure that it is not bronze grade badge.

Sergey that really doesn't make much sense. If we follow your theory no bronze buntmetall PAB or IAB would ever have received a finish

Second guess: apart from the base coating this badge, for what ever reason, never received it's final finish. This would explain the perfect unworn condition.

Philippe, persanaly I think that buntmetal badges coverded by special lacquer only. I think that bronzing of bronze grade awards, which made from yellow colour base metal is not practically and superfluous procedure.
