Porsche worked on design for Tiger II again his version was rejected because of Petrol-electric drive and shortage of copper...the first 50 produced Hencshel Tiger II used the Porsche designed/built turrents...
He worked on suspension change for Jagdtiger but again his design was rejected..
Hitler wanting to keep Porsche busy and away from other projects put him in charge of the super tank project the "Maus" two protypes where made...
The Elephants were actually pressed into service for the battle of Kursk along with the new Hencshel Tiger and the Panther. Both the Tiger and Panther were just coming into production and Hitler actually delayed the Kursk offensive until they could participate. The Russians were tipped off to the German plans from their spy networks and Ultra, and were able to prepare defenses in depth that routed the German panzer troops. The Elephants were heavily armored lumbering beasts with a huge main gun, but Dr. Porsche had failed to include defensive machine guns in their design . They were easily eliminated by Russian anti tank troops once they got ahead of their supporting infantry. As you note every other Porsche weapon design was a failure as well, so Philippe should really think of a better name for these badges.
