Porsche Buntmetall PAB Bronze. IT EXISTS!!!!!!!!!

    Hello dear friends,

Just back from a raid on the Stuttgart show and before hitting the hay I wanted to share a very special find with you.

Untill yesterday I was confident that a bronze buntmetall version of the sc "Porsche" PAB never existed. At one of the last stands we visited yesterday my eye fell on a lonely bronze PAB. After asking the seller to have a look at it I immediately recognized it as a Porsche PAB but since it was bronze it never even crossed my mind that it could be anything else than a zinc hollow badge. Since these are already extremely rare I quickly closed the deal and put in in the bag together with the rest of the loot.

Half an hour later I met up with Frank and showed him the results of a days PAB hunting. I pointed out the Porsche PAB to him and than it happened. Frank took a close look, rubbed it a couple of times and asked me if I was sure it was a zinker. Very quicly it became clear that it wasn't made out of zinc but out of buntmetall.

Although it features a broader based hinge than it's silver brother (which probably put me on the wrong foot from the start) it doesn't feature a plate under the catch. The catch is neatly soldered directly to the badge just like on the silver version.

After comparing it to it's silver brother it's my opinion that quality wise,(probably due to the use of a lesser base metall), it falls short a little, but overall it matches up to the high standards of early buntmetall PAB production.

So here she is guys, never seen before on this forum and I hope you like her as much as I do

    KR

          Hi Don,

Rest assured, there wasn't an interestig PAB left when we closed the doors on Friday evening. These guys didn't know what hit them

          Take a look over here.

Hi Don you really should consider it.

It was really great fun. We didn't buy from the big dealers but only concentrated on the little "hobby dealers"

These guys wouldn't agree with you when you say that we picked up the good stuff. At one table the dealer was literally throwing what he called rotten zinkers at us (amongst them a bronz hollow Assmann, a bronze wide pin RS) and told us these badges were no good, low quality zinc stuff.

Anyway we took an option on his low quality stuff and than waited for him to show us the good stuff. The guy than showed us a couple of hollow buntmetall PAB's that anybody on this forum would immidiately recognize as common fakes. After he told us they were twice as expensive as the rotten zinkers we really had to bite our tongue to prevent us from laughing out loud. We tried to keep up a serious face and told him that these badges were much to expensive for us and that we would be very happy with the rotten zinkers. So of we were with the Assmann and the RS .

                  Philippe,
You are doing some serious damage to my hopes of ever finding anything good in the future. You are begining to remind me of the person on the helmet forum that is referred to as the "helmet hog". You could fall down in a pile of sh!t and come up with a mint PAB in between your teeth! Seriously, a outstanding find on your part Philippe. Good things come to thoes who work hard.

                    Hello Philippe,

All right enough Please take a pic of you entire PAB collection. I mean will it fit on the restricted size

                    Look forward to seeing it.

                      Philippe,

Sounds like you had a pretty good time at the show! Your report was very entertaining and your buntmetal PAB is absolutley stunning! Living in upstate NY
really sucks when you're trying to collect PAB's

Great find Philippe, wish I was there in Stuttgart, sad that i'm still a student and don't have too much money to spend, but i'm glad for you guys, my time will come great photo shoot there in Stuttgart, it's funny how some names on the forum are different when you see the people that go with the photos in person, hope to be there next year, maybe not to buy but to learn from you guys.

                          best wishes. Den

The story about the dealer throwing out the "low quality zinkers" and praising the "high quality" buntmetal copies was one of the high points of the show for me.
Phil, it was fun to watch and experience the effects of your "illness".

                              Hi Guys,

Thanks for your nice comments. I really feel that I was very very lucky to stumble over this badge and it makes me wonder what else might be out there that we have never seen before. It's just an amazing hobby, a bit like identifying new insects species it just never seems to end

@Joe:, sorry don't have a digital camera. 3months ago I took this picture:

                              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...PAB+collection

Its a bit out dated because in the mean time the fourth drawer is filled to capacity and I had to start making rows of 7 instead of just 6 PAB's.

I know it's probably an illness but it's great fun and there is just so much you can learn from studying I specific badge. A lot of the knowledge you pick up can easely be transfered to a lot of other badges

@Skip, it was really great that we finally had the opportunity to meet, and I won't tell people about your illness but it for sure was an amazing luftbadge, wasn't it .
