    Wurster Panzer badges - Brass vs. Bunt

    Hello Gentlemen,
    I have two Wurster early stamped panzer assault badges in bronze. One appears to be bunt metal and the other brass.
    I was wondering if anyone knew if one was more rare than the other, or if they are just interchangable?
    Thank you,
    Curtiss

          On a side note: If I'm not mistaken (and please someone correct me if I'm wrong), but buntmetal is a derivation of brass.

          IMO both badges you have shown there are of the same metal, except one is slightly more polished than the other. Both look to be nice originals IMO.

            Chad is correct, both are one and the same material called brass or buntmetal.

            Very nice pieces btw! Do they weigh the same?
            Kind regards,
            Giel

              Hello Chad and Giel,
              Thank you for your replies. I had thought that one appeared more solid brass (all yellow colored metal), while this appeared to be a bronze/brown base metal with a gilt coating.
              If they are indeed the same base metal, I will sell one as a duplicate.
              Here is my listing of this badge;

                Hi Curtis,

                I agree with Chad that these are both brass badges.

                Buntmetal is a common term used in our hobby to mean any early badge made from brass or nickel silver. It is also generally used to differential between early badges and those made from zinc. But technically this is not correct, since the literal translation of "buntmetal" is "non-ferrous metal" which could be any type of metal NOT attracted to a magnetc.

                So technically speaking, zinc can be considered a buntmetal too.
