    IAB unknown maker or Deschler?

I picked this one up at a recent gunshow. I couldn't find an exact match in Sascha Weber's IAB book, but Deschler looks to be the closest match as far as the exact details of the design are concerned. It is completely flat-backed and Deschler is supposed to be slightly hollow, right?

Also, I noticed that the catch is put on with the opening facing the opposite direction compared to all the examples in the book.

    Any thoughts or comments?

I agree with Janos. The maker of this badge is unknown and referred to as a Broken Stem IAB by collectors.

            Best regards,
            Eric

Thanks for the info! But I don't understand: what does "broken stem" refer to? I'm sure it'll be obvious once you tell me

I have attached a link that shows why this type of IAB is referred to as Broken Stem. However, not all Broken Stem IABs have the "broken stem" feature. Some other features that also distinguish this type of IAB from a Deschler are the different:

                Talon design
                Chest feather pattern
                Oak Leaf and stem pattern

Do a side-by-side comparison and you will see the differences.

                Here is the link:

AGREED, a broken stem IAB. The biggest difference I see between these and Deschler's are that Deschler's have furry-looking feet.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

So mine is a "broken stem" without the actual broken stem feature then.

What about the back of the badge being flat, that is, the rifle is not slightly hollow? I know the makers had more than one set of dies. Maybe mine is a different die set then?

Some were flat and some had a slight hollow to the reverse.

Here is one of mine to compare, in looking at yours I believe it had this type of finish at one time but now is completely worn away.

                      Best Regards, fischer

Thanks for the posting your IAB It's superb! Sad that we will probably never know the name of the firm that made this wonderful pattern. I especially like the oak leaves' shapes--very realistic.

Thanks again to all for your help!
