    Bronze Close Combat Clasp Question

    Hello

I have purchased a bronze close combat clasp that appears to have the maker mark "r & B L". I cannot find a manufacturer with this mark. F & B L I have seen as a manufacturer, but I am wondering whether the "r" on my piece was in fact an "F", just that the second horizontal line may have worn away (although that would appear strange given the condition of the remainder of the lettering). Any thoughts?

Although I am by no means any type of really experienced award collector, the piece seems to have a quality finish.

I shall try and get pictures taken, it's just that my digi cam does not appear to be able to get close in detail.

    Thanks

Sounds like you have an F&BL clasp. The F is pretty small, so its very possible some debris got caught in the die and it didn't form properly. Pics are always helpful to be sure

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

      Hello Tom

Thanks, I understand you have written a small piece on the CCC!

I have tried to get a copy of your book but cannot seem to find one. Can you point me in the right direction?

I shall try and get round to my brother who has a better camera and get some pics taken. Very keen to establish whether I have a genuine piece or not.

      Thanks again for your input.

        Hi Nick,

I think you might find a copy with Jack Hatter of Volume Control: http://www.ww2bks.com/

        Thanks

Sorry, but this CCC is a well known fake. The makers mark is in the wrong position.

Disappointed, but hey, this happens (especially when you are not sure what you are looking at). Out of interest, is this perceived as a good copy as through my ignorance, I clearly thought it original?

                        Thanks

                          Hi

You have to see it postive, you are now a member on WAF and could get a lot of help from here.
So post some pictures here before you buy anything, that could save you a lot of money

                            Hi Bauer,

Did you get a hold of Jack for a copy of the CCC book?

This one is shown as Reproduction #5, page 284

                              Hi Tom

No, but I have contacted him now!

I am pleased that mine is famous and in print - not!

I must say, this has put me off collecting awards to some extent. Clearly a very tricky business.
