      Dear Philippe,
Sorry I didn't reply to this before; I had a little appointment with an oral surgeon a couple of days ago that turned out to be bigger than anticipated!

Here is the reverse of the Kupal PAB I showed the front of. There is some sort of finish on the back, but hard to say if it's another layer of copper, or a dark bronze finish over top of the Kupal. In some areas, it looks like the aluminum is showing through on the back. This doesn't appear to be wear; in fact this thing has very little wear. I don't think any bronze finish was ever applied to the front at all. Notice though, the finish that made it onto the hinge/pin/catch.

      Best regards,
      Greg

How does the reverse of your's compare to the obverse, is it void of any finish too?

          Dear Greg,

Always difficult to tell from a picture but after looking at the reverse that is identical to mine I also would conclude that the finish on the obverse was removed.

On your reverse the different layers are clearly visible, dark chocolate, gold colored coating, red copper and finaly arround the edges of the upper wreath the bright aluminium.

Not so long ago I was offered a Kupal IAB, when I saw the pics the obverse had a nice red copper color but the reverse was silver. I passed on that badge because my conclusion was that it once was a silver badge with the obverse finish removed.

Anyway in relation to your badge I'm not sure because like you say yourself there isn't any visible wear to the obverse although in some areas it shows a darker patina.

Who cares, it's still a verynice, rare and original example and that's the most important.
