This clasp is in shocking condition, but I am certain it was an original. Opinions on that please and judging by the reverse colour would one assume it was probably silver? Thanks in advance!

Whether this is original or not, it is in ground dug like condition.
No hardware and no finish. I can't say whether it is silver or bronze (Chad has better eyes than I do for sure). It's a fishing lure as far as collecting value IMO.
What's up with that boulder the bird is sitting on??? And where are or were the crimps for the back plate?

Thanks guys by the way!!
As he is only a kid and I am trying to entice him into the hobby, I thought by giving it to him, at least if it was original he would be better off with a relic condition example than instead of spending money on a fake until maybe he can afford a better example. At least it would help him with points of authenticity.
The badge has been de-nazified hence the problem under the bird.
From my limited knowledge of CCC's and this maker, the maker mark was produced upside down (as this is) and they had a line on the reverse of the badge near the catch which this also has. It also has better detail to the birds wings which F&B.L seemed to use.
Thanks again!

Hi Monty,
I think you are exactly right, its a denazified original badge. As to the finish, hard to be sure as it doesn't look like there is any left. The silver-look on the reverse seems to be zincpest rather than any type of finish. And the crimps are there, they are just completely flattened (typical of F&BL clasps).
I think your gesture is a good one, as a young collector its important to get a "feel" of original badges, even in such condition. I would take this one anyday of the week over some fake.
TomIf it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a littleNew Book - The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II

The condition is fairly obvious and was not the question. It was going to be given to a young collector instead of him buying a repro as like many starting out he has not the $$. I will bin it. I shall tell him to buy a repro.
It is a fine relic and better than a repro.
