    Hi Mark,

Yes, interesting! I only noticed the discrepancy on Yuri's badge this morning when I viewed Redzed's post. All I can say that the maker's mark on my badge is the same as on Andy's at the top of the thread (same location and style), the same as for the two examples in "Ailsby's Collector's Guide to German WW2 Medals" and what I understand to be correct for the small maker mark.

What gives? Another genuine variation? A repro represented as genuine somewhere? Good question!

Let me add to the mayhem

I've read along on this thread with much interest as the CCC is my favorite and only piece I collect. I've done much research on the AGMuK and have turned up the fact that there seems to be a countless number of combinations of catch type, backplate crimping, and pin type that most people can agree on. I have 1 more combination that has not been discussed yet. Several people above have stated that they know that their badges are "100% original". That may be the case, but I don't see how you can say that for sure. I have several ground-dug pieces of several different CCCs, all marked AGMuK. If anything is "100% original", these would be them. There were over 25 CCCs in this one find. All were marked AGMuK in small lettering. All had fluted pins. All had flat wire catches. All were crimped with 1 indented crimp on the left side and 1 on the right side. All had black backplates. The above is what I look for on MY AGMuKs for ME to feel 100% comfortable.
Now there can be 2 theories on this badge. One theory is that this is how all AGMuKs were made and the rest floating around are reproductions. Possible, but not probable. The second theory is that AGMuK, being a conglomorate of several companies, each produced their own badges, all similar in detail, but with slightly different lettering, pins, catches, and backplate crimping. I personally believe in the second theory, but with no real proof, no one can be sure. The second theory can explain the first theory......All the ground dug badges I mentioned were found in the same location, the lake. It is probable that these badges were ordered all from the same manufacturer by a certain unit and issued to the men. At the end of the war, this unit stopped by the lake and got rid of all their awards, hence all the badges were the EXACTLY the same. If the second theory is in fact the truth, then we are back were we started from, with no real criteria to base AGMuKs on.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Here are a couple of Gablonz marked clasps I have. Yes, the gold one is bad, recently nailed to the coffin by Detlev's copy o' the week. The silver one has one similarity to the gold and that is it has the raised line around the base of the catch and hinge. It is not very clear in my pictures but if you have a copy of Detlev's image they are very noticeable.

On the silver one, the catch is a heavier round wire like ? mark and soldered directly to the back and the 4 crimps for the back plate are raised not pressed flat like many good and bad ones. The markings are more raised and prominent than on the gold one. The back plate and pin are magnetic and the specs are weight: 39.6g, length: 98mm, height: 26mm and 4mm thick down to 2mm on the far ends. Thoughts, opinions??
