Would I be right in assuming that this is a post war souval piece becuase of the rounded RS

No. "Angled" letters are supposedly "preferred", but round are legit wartime from what I know. On RS GAB's, only round letters are found, and they are widely accepted as original wartime pieces.

I'am in aggrement with Harry on this. The only thing that concerns me is the hinge and the catch. So many good Souval badges are passed over due to the stigmatism attached due to their post war badge production. Souval was a large producer of badges during the war. I've some of their earlier IAB's that are as good as any maker out there.

HELLO I STAND TO BE CORRECTED IF IM WRONG,BUT I AM NEAR SURE I READ IN DETECTING THE FAKES THAT IF THERE IS NO GAP BETWEEN THE SWASTIKA AND RIFLE THEN IT WAS A FAKE .THEN ALL THESE YEARS ANY IABS WITH THIS I WOULD PASS OVER.ON SEEING THIS BADGE I WOULD AUTOMATICALLY SAY IT WAS A FAKE.CAN YOU CLARIFY PLEASE,JAMES /IRELAND

Hi Harry, angled letters can be found on original wartime "RS" General Assault badges.

                          Cheers, Ade.

Hi Paul, I forgot to mention that your badge is fine too I have one of these small round letter "RS" IAB's in bronze. I have featured it on the forum before.

                            Cheers, Ade.

                              James.

I think you may have misinterpreted the caption.

What the photo shows is two originals - one with an area pierced out and the other with it solid. It shows manufacturers' variations. The one at the bottom of the photo is the copy.

Hope this clarifies things for you.

                              Regards,

                              Robin.
