it weighs 32.4g which is less than I thougt it would be. Its not zinc though- could it be nickle silver?

It's a zinc made one with a brass coating for the finish.
          Best regards, Andreas

I would tend to agree with Andreas, a copper coated zink badge. Note the zinc-like reverse hardware.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks guys- the plating is definitely yellow in colour so I would guess brass? anyone else got one like this?

                Hi Patrick,

Fischer has one (ofcourse, he has EVERYTHING!), her she is.

Can you provide a weight of yours, that would confirm we are looking at a brass-coated zinker rather than a true solid brass piece?

I also have a nice, thickly plated zinc S&L, weight is 33.1 grams. Yours should be comprable. If it were solid brass, the weight would be more like 40 grams in my opinion.

                Tom

                  Hi Patrick

I agree with Andreas and Tom, your badge has a brass coating over the zinc base material.

                  Best Regards, fischer

                      Hello Patrick

Here is the reverse...Mine is an Oval Hinge variant with a vertical positioned sheet metal catch. This hardware set up can also be found on S&L PAB's.

Thanks Fischer, I think the catch on mine is probably replaced as hinge is the same as you find on the later s&ls that are crimped in
