Mayer GAB Silver or Bronze ??

    Hi guys
Is this Mayer GAB silver grade with areas of the base metal showing through.
Or is it a bronze grade and what looks like base metal is just whats left of bronze.???
Appreciate you looking and the opinions.
    Regards Rob

      Hi Robin,

GABs are ALL silver grades, there are no bronze. Yours is an excellent example of an early GAB made from brass (aka tombak) and was silver plated. On the worn hightlights, where the silver finish has worn off you see the bronze color of brass underneath. A very desirable GAB you have there.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
