Forgot to tell you what the description said:

                      "...58 x 46 mm."

                      "...best German craftsmanship..."

                      "...18 k gold..."

                        Thanks Ludwig......

Looks like the badge is not die stamped, but rather cast from the first model LCTB, which kind of fits the story - that boys got together and made one special in gold for him(not part of the same stamping run in real gold), ... probably went to the local jeweler(..in Spain or Germany?) with what they had in hand - first model LCTB from which jeweler made a mold and cast it in gold with solid back and I don't think they would order more than one, ...so maybe that is the badge who knows, I don't know what those other gold badges are, would be interesting to see. I wonder if von Thoma ever had any extra copies made for wear.

Almost everybody know this badge was made and presented in Spain, some weeks before von Thoma came back to Germany. So the jeweler was spanish, as was the man who made the first LC Tank badges awarded. This is the information you can find tha main part of the reference books until now. If some new info about this question do exist, please tell us.

                                Picks of badge

Sorry, I seldom have time to visit the forums and didn't know my association dues were due. Alik has kindly volunteered to post them for me. I have a German Eagle Order 4th class and the pins are quite similar in craftsmanship and style.
