    First CW IAB

I was just going through the collection and I came across my first IAB purchase. When I bought it was pre-internet days so it has never been shown before so I thought I would make today its debut, I hope it’s a good one. The IAB was manufactured by Carl Wild and is marked “CW” on the back. It is has the C.W. odd/goofy looking eagle head. The badge show signs of blunt force trauma and is slightly concaved as if the person wearing it had leaned over wall or walked into something and the weight of his body slightly crushed the badge and pushed it in. I believed the seller refered to this "combat worn."

      Hi John

Well it certainly looks well worn and may have been in combat...It looks original to me, and the concave shape has probably always been there.

      Thanks for showing

      best regards

        Hi Greame,

Thanks for the relpy. I was pretty sure that it was good but confirmation never hurts. As far as the concave shape always being there, I don't think so. Maybe this pic can show it better. The rifle and opposite side wreath is pushed down.

            Hi John

A well worn original Carl Wild example. Seeing the side view of the badge, it's a wonder it did not snap in half!

              Hi Fischer,

Thanks fo r the reply. It almost did snap as shown in this pic. You can see an attempt to repair with glue or something similar to it.

                Hello there,

Repaired or not it is a nice CW. This maker has a very distinct eagle, almost with a long and skinny neck. Nice salty badge!

                  Hi John

Looks like they used some type of epoxy to strengthen the area...it did almost snap.

In regards to the Adler, there are a few IAB's that come to mind with what one might call a funny looking head. IMO the Carl Wild is tops in the IAB world and probably why I like this variant so much.

Here is one of my examples, still looking for the bronze grade.

                  Best Regards, fischer

                      Fischer,

That's a good looking badge! Hard to believe that mine started off looking like that.

Concerning funnly looking heads I always thought the JFS Adler looked like "Sam the Eagle" from the Muppet Show.
