            Never believe in prototypes.

            99.9% of them are hookey.

we must not overlook the originals, there are at least two types of this award. The silver by Gahr is extremly rare.

what does that 1 look like, and what are the typical constructions methods you should look for in these badges

                  Merdock,

Your question on construction has been answered but I should note there are two known versions, one of which has the runes silvered as in Robins book, the other does not.

The one without silvered runes is pictured in several reference books, Angolia ' For Fuehrer and Fatherland' and in Andrew Mollo's 'Uniforms of the SS' series. Also of note, if you have a copy of the Dr Doehle Awards book, 1945 version of the book, you can see the award in there. The runes have no silver plating in that illustration.

Dr K gives the dimentions in his book for the Gahr type. Plus a compleat converlut with the award, other awards and Proof book was obtained directly from the Family of the recipient.

                          Christopher,

Does Herr Klietman show any photo of the 'Gahr' type? I have never seen a period photo of this Gahr badge. I have seen period photos of the bubble back style which Robin posted a picture of, and a period photo of the style illustrated in the 1945 Dr. Doehle book.
