for $516 today. Granted it's a beauty, but I didn't think it would fetch this much.

That seems kinda steep but maybe in Europe with the Euro being so high the price is not so bad.

Echoing militarybuyer and to put it in perspective, the euro price was 400. A year and a half ago, the euro was worth $0.90; if that were still the rate, the clasp would have gone for $360.00. For me that's still steep but I have no idea where the "market" is on these.

Must be "Euro" inflation! I like to think it's seller inflation......old supply and demand I guess. All I'm going to be able to buy soon is a few tinnies at this rate.

I agree. I have heard this before, more than once: Why is the price so high ? Well... The Dollar is high now. I never heard it the other way around, where the price of a badge goes down with the Dollar.

          Cheers.

It's even worse when you live in Canada, when our dollar is low compared to the US buck.

Ah well I guess I'll just have to make more money

The reason the price was so high was it was Tombak. If it were a zinc with the same finish, it would be about $100 less.

                Hi Tom,

Are you sure about that? It's a perfect match down to the crimps to my silver example and thats made out of zinc. Can't imagin that they used the same kind of crimps on buntmetall and zinc examples

                  Hi Philippe,

Detlev states that it is Tombak . I personally believe these are zinc with a thick bronze finish on them. When they wear down a little, they look shiny bronze in places, which makes people think they are Tombak. I have 2 sold as such, but under intense scrutiny, they are both zinkers. I don't think they are meant to deceive anyone, I just think that we scrutinize badges under microscopes and loupes, etc. much more than sellers usually do. Detlev and the other good ones, probably have so much pass through their hands in 1 week than most of us see in a whole year. I personally have never seen a Tombak badge and with the late issue of this award, that make sense.

                    Dear Tom,

I agree completely with you. They sure are very heavy awards and with a perfect finish easely mistaken for tombak pieces.

Well....................that really blows the needle on my other thread on the 8K GAB. Buntmedal CCC for $516.00.

I guess this is one of those eithier gotta have it or he must be so flush with cash it don't matter.

Really doesn't make much sense, I was surprised to see the cased B&NL sell for the price it sold for as well I guess you never know.

                      Best,

                        Hi ,
for me the badge looks in tombak ( I have one egual in tombak but silver grade)
This bronze grade has very high details , very nice, one of the most beautifull I ever seen .

I think Tombak CCCs are a myth, I have not been convinced up to now when holding one that was supposedly Tombak that it actually was Tombak. Like Tom says, these are very well plated Feinzink CCCs in my opinion. I have two outstanding silver clasps but I still think they are zinc.
                          Cheers, Frank

I agree absolutely with Frank H. I have a dead match CCC bronze to this with the heavy plating except mine has the fluted pin. Finish looks identical and it is heavy except it has a small amount of damage which shows that it is definitely zinc.. I'm no metallurgist but IMO it would be extremely hard to produce those crimping 'blobs' in tomback?
