      Interesting thread guys.

I have a black stamped metal WB in the WW1 style which has the same lightly soldered, bent catch but this time the flat wire pin is attached via a ball type hinge (similar to the luft flak ball hinges). The problem is I can't post a decent pic as my camera is only a web cam and the details won't show. There appears to be a sideways "8" in the lower left corner of the helmet (when viewed from the rear) but this is partially obscurred by heavy painting on the top 10% of the 8.

I hope this helps, but if its gone off topic and is confusing the issue let me know and I'll edit the post.

I noticed that PAB and it's unique catch as well. I also have a GAB with cut-out wings like Frank's with the same catch. No idea on the maker.

I have seen a WWI Wound Badge in silver with the same catch that was marked D.R.G.M.

Great and rare badge, Don! It is so much better to have "weird good" badges than the usual stuff!
                  I am truely envious.
                  Cheers, Frank

                    Don,
I have to echo Frank. Glad that nice badge found a good home in Virginia!

                    Regards,

                      Hi Don,

I agree with Frank & Greg, trully wonderfull PAB with a unique design and verry nice finish.

Just something that keeps bothering me. I've seen those two little stripes on the rock on another PAB, not featuring that specific reverse set-up. If I only could remember where, already searched my files twice but couldn't find it.

I already made room in my drawer for this variant, and hopefully the voids won't stay empty for to long.

Would be interesting to see if there exist other variants of this one besides the hollow zinc version.

PS: design wise for me this badge comes closest to FLL but it isn't a match.

Thanks Chris, allow me a question. I can see the silver finish stopping right before the hinge and catch, which leads me to believe the badge was painted silver. Would you be able to confírm/negate that after looking at the abdge thorougly, please? Or is the "black" surrounding hinge and catch solder? And: What is your badge made of?
