    Vergoldet FLLl CCC

This FLL Gold Close Combat Badge came in a cardstock case labeled "vergoldet". I believe that refers to a late almost painted finish on these CCC's, like the "versilbert" ones I have seen. Does the finish on the one look original???

            Hi Tom,

That is a weird looking finish at first glance. The reverse shots look much more in line with that I would expect, but it just looks very thick on the obverse and not really what you would expect for an original finish.

Another concern I have is the look of the wear on the obverse, looks a bit artificial to me. FLL backplates are easy to pop out, so they are easy suseptible to being refinished IMO.

However, it is worn in the correct spots and I like the look of the finish inside the crimp points for the backplate, something the fakers have a VERY hard time mastering. Have you tried acetone on a little spot and see if the finish comes off? If it does, its most certainly refinished IMO.

If it doesn't react to acetone, it MAY be OK but I have to admit I have never seen thick finish like this on an FLL. Their finishes were either plated or gold brennlack/wash, which looks more crystaline and powdered than what you see on yours.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

              Hi

              Here's what I see:

              1. It appears to have brush strokes, like someone painted it.

              2. There is pooling of paint in the vertical area parallel to the back plate. Imagine you were painting wall in your house with a crack you are going to have accumulation of paint in the crack more paint then is actually on the surface.

              3. It also appears that the "paint" has chipped off and isn't worn or scratched off. This also leads me to believe that it is paint

IMO a original FLL-CCC, but I can`t say something obout the grade from pictures. I`ve never seen such a gold-finish on any FLL-CCC, but everything is possible!
