          Hi John,

Nice original buntmetall IAB that lost quite some finish.

Here is it's bronze twin brother

              Hi again Phillipe!
Thanks for you lightening fast reply. Your badge is a real beauty.
Was real silver ever alloyed into the buntmetal badges? The various colors of the tarnish suggests silver althought there is no silver content stamp. Thanks for the pics......

                Hi John,

I'm not a chemist but as far as I know, silver wasn't used in the alloy mix to make buntmetall or tombak badges. I also have never seen an IAB made out of silver.

                  Hi again Philippe,
Thanks for your reply. The reason I ask this question is that I had wiped portions of this badge clean. I removed the oxidation; It left a black residue on my fingers (very similar to that of old silver coins). The areas I had wiped within a week or two had retoned again. This also happens on silverplated items. Is it possible some of these badges may have been plated with genuine silver? Just curious. Something I have always thought about.

                  John
