Juncker panzer bronze badge

Dear all,

A great zinc bronze Panzerkampfabzeichen, although never marked that way very likely Juncker due to the hinge/pin/catch construction. Thanks to members private webpages I was able to educate myself more about these badges and acquired some nice items.

One thing regarding the maker though - and I know they are commonly attributed to Juncker - but did Fritz Zimmerman (sp) ever make Panzer Badges? If they did and someone has a marked one, would they care to compare it closely with Franks' badge. I know hinges and pins were commonly sourced from third party suppliers, but I have a marked IAB by FZS with exactly the same hinge/pin/catch/catchplate construction, including the RAISED rectangle around the hinge and RAISED elongate oval around the catch, both of which are integral with the back of the badge (I can post pictures but not until early next week if anyone wants to make their own comparison). I'll be interested in other comments.

That is strange, because I have a IAB from FZS (which is good) that has a totally different hinge/pin/catch than the one you describe. See:

Frank that is a nice looking FZS IAB badge you have there. And if Mikes has the other hinge and catch I would say it is questionable at the least. But as for the PAB being a Juncker, I really don't know. I think the only thing that makes people think that is the hinge, at least as far as I know that is the main reason. If anyone has any light to shed on this......post away!

I have an FZZS IAB exactly as Frank's silver one shown. I also have a bronze one with the hinge and pin that Mike is describing.

To Frank and Ron,

Sorry guys, but NOT strange at all! There are three (3) types of hinge/pin/catch assembly that I am aware of for FZS IABs. Frank has shown a nice example of what I believe is the last type produced with the butchered crimped in hinge region and also crimped in catch (and the logo in the lower position). If you look closely at the hinge and catch regions on Frank's badge, you will see the REMNANTS of the RAISED hinge/catch borders on the badck of the badge which are clearly visible on Lorenzo's nice example (I also have an example of this type). The other type, the one I described above, uses a full length hinge (ie the full length of the raised rectangle) and a full length catchplate - the same as that used on the Panzer Badge at the top of the thread. I will post pictures in a couple of days.

Well Mike as soon as I read your post I pulled my badge out and will say I have the same thing that you speak about. Apparently I am not looking close enough to what I buy, and thanks for the information on this.

About FZZS badges....

......about 8 or 9 months ago the question of different methods of attaching the hinge/catch assembly came up and at least 3 different methods that I know of have been observed.

My own is like Franks and I would trust all the other ones that I have seen to be genuine as well.

Hello all, I just wanted to say that i also possess a PAB in bronze that is a mirror image of the one showed by munich.I also have a IAB the same frontside as lorenzos,in silver,but my hinge fills out the whole of the rectangle,i take it that this is also ok.It looks like old Fritz Zimmerman bought his hinges and catches werever they were the cheapest.Just my humble opinion

I'm posting images of the FZS IAB with the full width hinge and catchplate. There is actually one difference I've just noted in the hinge/pin/catch assembly - Frank's Panzer badge and Lorenzo's Bronze FZS IAB both use roundwire catches whereas my two examples use flatwire catches (my fault for posting from memory!). The main pins all look like they came from the same source however - compare the "dimples" on the tops of the pins near the hinge.

Has anybody compared one of the Panzer badges with the same hinge/catchplate assembly WITHOUT the raised regions on the back of the badge to Franks example?
