    New GWL IAB

Just recieved this GWL marked IAB. It's in zinc and is suffering from some zinc pest. I may attempt to clean it up a bit as it did not cost me much. Who is this maker and is this one good? It looks ok to me, but I'm not well versed on these.

It looks better in hand than the pictures.

A better shot of the mark. This looks like aotherb examples of this maker I have seen. Again, nothing special, but a marked example and it never broke the bank.

Does this mean I should or should not clean it?

Cover it in vasoline for 24 hrs and wipe off, it will stop any corrosion and it will look a whole lot better.

                    cheers

Will that remove any of the current rot?

It won't do any harm Steve, and likely the action of removing the vasoline with soft cloth will remove any powdery zinc rot and dirt.
Give it a go, then if you have a scanner, scan it and post it.
Searching on "vasoline" should result in before and after pics from other members..

I had a brief look awhile back about restoration techniques and was thinking about trying it on this badge. It's one of the reasons I picked it up. Like I said, I got this for a good price, although I know it's a little rough. However it is real and marked. I will take some better pictures before and after and post them. Hopefully I will get a chance to post some nice quality examples of IABs here soon. Any suggestions of what I would look for if I were to look for a really nice one? Not necessarily rare, but a quality example in terms of construction and condition. Thanks, Steve

So, what material are they made of. I guess not zinc. What would I expect to pay for a nice example with most of the finish still left?
