    Legion Condor Panzer Badge

Detlev sold another LCPB this morning, and I really think it needs to be discussed.

Nothing about this badge looks correct to me, but perhaps others can weigh in.

I really can't claim any knowledge of these so I'll be interested in comments on this one men...selling price was Euro4000.00 wasn't it!
    Cheers, Steve

      This.......

......Badge is sure to get some wheels spinning! I'll be content to observe from the sidelines. Interesting, and unique, pin catch set-up/replacement?

Looks like a first pattern with replaced hardware. This version was notorious for weak attaching system. Look at period fotos and you will find them sewn to uniforms because of this.

Don, I thought this also, at first glance.

But the more you compare this to a type 1, or any other type, red flags are raised.

First I want to point out the positioning and size of the skull and tank on this piece. On all types of this badge I have seen, the lower right vertical jaw-line is perfectly aligned with the rear of the tank turret. This also applies for the lower right cross bone forming an even line with the rear of the tank just above the tread.

I also do not like the distance between the wreath, and both lower cross bones, aswell as the shape of the leaves in the left hand area.

Compare the crossbones in post #115, with the ones below. The shape, size, and positioning is not even close.

I believe that ones a fake.

What about the one in post #10?

I don't believe we will ever know how many companies made the LC tank badge, despite it's limited "award basis". Collectors recognize a couple of models as being from "known" manufacturers and are terrified of the "rest", some of which could be perfectly real.

                    I agree.

I have no doubt (in my own mind) that the first badges, made locally at the behest of von Thoma, were pretty crude.

In some ways, the CLTB is like the Kurland Cuff Title.................but at the other end of the war, so to speak!

This is a very valid statement.

I just can not fathom such a huge variation in these badges given such a low amount of eligible servicemen.

The one in post number 10 has a different alignment of the lower right jaw and tank turret, it also lacks the pebbled bone motif starting between the eyes of the skull going toward the top.
