    Assmann GAB

    Hi guys,

I would really appreciate some comments regarding this piece. Original, or Staegemeir made? I´m really scratching my head right now, so post right away...

    Regards,

    Daniel

Hi Nordmark,IMO this is a repro,
original Assmann of this type dont have good details and this one looks even more soft a specially on the wreath, reverse cut outs looks slightly different as well finish looks a bit strange, perhaps its a picture, also if you have weight and measurements that could help as well.

        lets see what others say,

        regards,

        Eddie

That's a break out of the used material and imo a sign against cast. That's a badge i would like to have in hands for inspections.

From the photos it seems there are traces of a protection layer on the badge. All at all an interesting badge difficult to judge from photos.
            Best regards, Andreas

Andreas, mein lieber Freund und Kupferstecher...

This is exactly what I thought, these must be some sort of remnants from the "Zaponlack"(lacquer), that you find on many badges, plus the base metal is not the usual Staegemeir alloy. If you look at the tip of the blade, there is a silvered base metal visible.

I will have a look at it and post better pics when I have it in hand.

              Regards,

              Daniel

I think it has potential. Let's see your photos when you have them. That should be the tell.

in my opinion is a fake!Hinge and needle hook doesn' match correctly and patina, eagle as well probably.
I'v seen nearly the same on ISA badge''Assmann'' before
still have pictures in my PC archiv I think...

                        100% post war. Sorry!
Don't believe everything you read on the internet, that's how WWI got started.

                          Hi Michael,

thank you for your thought. What makes this a postwar piece?

                            Hello Nordmark,

I´d like to show my Assmann holow steel version to compare.

Please note the little spots on obverse..these are from the production process, so I guess it might be one of the first badges of this kind.

                            Kind regards

                            Martin
