If this is a fake than it's a damn good one. The wear pattern is very convincing. I only notice a rather sloppy formed grenate head...

Hi Tom, well you have some input now

Chad, my thoughts on the set up in general, are the same as at the beginning of this thread, it puts me on edge. Danny also mentioned that this setup does not conform to S&L. I prefer the close up pic provided by Tom rather than the "squarish" looking hinge in the first pics, but again it is not what we expect.

Danny, thanks for posting that superb example. It must be getting late because I can't see too many differences, what I would like to see if possible are scans of Toms badge, so we get the exact same angle as Dannys and if possible some in focus close shots of the hinge and catch.
We might then see if the "flaw" area is really a flaw, I am not totally convinced on that area.

Tom, if you have a loupe could you inspect the hinge and catch area to see if it looks replaced, I noticed some buckling of the badge near the hinge area.

As Wim said, if this is a fake it is a very good one. The wear and finish all look excellent. Can you imagine if this had the same set up as Dannys

Thanks for the link Chris, something to keep in mind for sure.

        regards
        Graeme

Thanks very much for your opinion. I will post some extra pics tomorrow and I will have look to the hinge and catch area.

There is nothing wrong with this piece. A very early S&L with a more uncommon set up we can also find on the early S&L PAB's.
            Kind regards,
            Giel

              Hi Giel,

can you show a pic of that PAB setup?
I don´t think I have seen a block hinge on an S&L before.

                Hi John,

I didn't specify enough, I ment the catch. The blockhinge is uncommon indeed but I do not see why it wouldn't be possible.
                Kind regards,
                Giel

                  Oh, I see.

I just found pics of an early S&L BWB with blockhinge and a directly soldered on
round wire catch, which gives the setup of this GAB a bit more credibility.

But I´m still not a fan. I´ll wait for better pics.

                            kind regards,

After seeing new pics I have to correct my previous statement that this badge is fake.
What looked like a flaw in the oakleaf on the first pics is just...well, nothing.
Setup seems to be also acceptable, even though rarely used by S&L.

                              Sorry for any confusion!

                                Hi guys,

A perfectly original GAB in my opinion, no problems at all. That setup is not common at all to S&L badges, but was often used by their neighbor Friedrich Linden.

                                Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
