I'm not going to be to much help here, buts lets see uumm, I can't see the eagles head or any other details properly/in detail for the likes of me to give a opinion really.(but I'll have go )

From the front though it looks convincing enough ! Without seeing the eagles head though I'd be guessing.

What I do wonder about is the base plate, it is very very similar to the L 10 & L 56 style base plate but rather than a square with rounded corners it's rounded as a whole on the vertical sides. I can't see the catch at all but I assume it's not a round wire catch ? I'm stumped !!

It's certainly not the most common fake (and I doubt it is), it's got the cross in the wheel rather than a +, it's barrel looks long enough without being short and stubby, he's got the 'flat cap' head (I call it that) but then there is a fake like that too. There seems to be good details on it, as far as I can barely make out.

Hinge : I really don't know ? Similar to a Luft Flak WH hinge though not that, that has any thing to do with the price of egg's.

Sorry I'm crap I'm thinking out aloud and I hope this will provoke others to have a go, but like I say it's difficult from the pic's. Over to the more conversed and experienced.

          Kind regards,

          Marcus

PS I'd say it was genuine to conclude my scatty thoughts, based on the hinge and plate, details and flat head there are variations and to be honest I wouldn't have a clue on the maker, which is how I associate badges in a sense from good and bad !

I like it from what I can see to be honest, it dosen't scream or make me think fake......but I am a novice.

I think it was a round wire catch, but it has broken off..

            Thanks,

              Hi,

I can't see the pics either but I've just posted some of my new zinc flak badge that seems to have been given the thumbs up.

Come to find out, Geocities (since the last time I used them), has ceased allowing its users to directly link to images. That was the problem with the pics initially. I created a bare bones HTML page with the images in it, and that seems to work just fine.

                http://www.geocities.com/elegant_dead/flak.html

My firewall at work won't let me upload files to the normal web hosting provider that I use at home, so I had to revert to Geosh*ties..

                Thanks,

Chris, hard to tell but mu initial impression is that I don't like it. Can't see the eagles head but I don't like the set up on the back and the look of the metal. It seems too shiney IMO.
                  Hope this helps.

The badge finally came this last week, and I've had a chance to photograph it for myself. Granted, my camera sucks, but it's still better than what we were working on before.

Anyhow, here's a detail of the head:

...and a better view of the front, with a more realistic depiction of the finish.

...and here's a shot showing the reverse in better detail.

I still like it more than I don't, I think this could well be a genuine badge by all accounts ?

                          Kind regards,

                            Hi Chris,

Personnaly I wouldn't want this Heer Flak In my collection. Not because I'm 100% certain that it is a fake but because the typical stripe/line pattern visible on the reverse puts me of

It reminds me a lot of the "Wernstein design" flatback PAB I once discussed in this thread:

                            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=flatback+PAB

and similar GAB's that also exist with that pattern. All of these badges feature the same reverse hardware. They also distinguish themself by their weight. They are very heavy and tick. Looking at the pictures of your Flak I'm under the impression that it has the same problem.

The same goes for me. Look at the reverse where the wreath meets the cannon barrel or where the wings go through the wreath. Somehow these lines do not properly meet. This badge seems to have been cast from a good example, then roughly "sawed out", then the reverse was ground flat and the hardware applied. It would not be for my collection.
                              Cheers, Frank
