200 Numbered Silver Panzer Badge by Juncker

Hello folks,
Now that I have your attention, I thought I would share this photo from 1983. When I was a sophomore in college the author Jack Angolia and his friend Gayle Dinsmore offered me this fake 200 numbered panzer badge (complete with L/12 hallmark), for over $1,000. Of course I passed on it, glittery junk; but I wanted to share what a well known author and buddy of his tried to pawn off on me.

BTW, my friend found these photos along with some others and gave them to me yesterday.

Hi Tom,
It was over that amount. I think it was $1,250. Keep in mind that was 1983 dollars.

So many crooks that are authors from the early days...... Makes one wonder.

Most of these people had absolutely HUGE egos and a thirst to have everything. No one could have more than them, or better than them, and nothing would stand in the way of them doing absolutely anything to cheat their way to the TOP (wherever that is). Even more sad is that many of these people (not all) actually had some ability and contributed some useful information to this hobby. Regretably, we can still see this in action today (but at least it gets exposed quicker than it used to be).

......In 1984 I couldn't even get the closest Militaria Shop(Centurion Military Hobbies in Walnut Creek, CA) to order me a copy of Angolia's book. It was the only place I knew to ask. I had only read of it in a gun magazine. I tried the book stores in Berkeley too....no help there.

I almost bought a cased, RK w/oaks for $500 from them, and I am glad to this day that I held onto my cash. At the time it was a weeks wages. Get this: The RK and oaks were in a square case.....at the time I didn't know what a real RK case looked like. I still almost took the bait.

Well I have a 500 PAB. I hate to one up you, but it is as right as rain. I won't show it here; to many know it all expert types. These were never awarded but had the War lasted another year they would have been awarded in a special ceremony with the Fuehrer. They were found in a secret cache at War's end at a Bavarian Castle where some SS Troops were holed up and refused to surrender.

Hi Bruce,
You should of tried Steve Wolfe's military shop in Long Beach, that is where I bought many of my Bender books. Then you could have visited his bunker.

The Museum of World Wars in CA also sold Bender books too.

I am glad I did not take the bait, but even then I was able to tell good from bad. I was lucky, (back in the day) I had guys like Steve Wolfe and Bob McCarthy to run stuff by if I had a question.
