Thanks folks. The other side of this is pretty interesting as I have told the owner who claims it came straight from a Veteran I had concerns about this badge he was offering.

Additionally, there were some other badges "from the Vet" that too are for sure bad. Normally, we all walk away at this point, but he keeps coming back for more bad news.

Better pictures are needed, as simple as that. Based on these pictures I would not buy it.
      Kind regards,
      Giel

I would like to publicly thank Larry Lipps for going against the grain on this one. Good job Larry.

            Gentlemen,
I don't keep up with these badges on a routine basis so maybe I've missed some research that's uncovered new and improved JFS badges. There was a time when these were discussed in detail and a set of characteristics defined for a badge to be original. I don't recall any JFS badges with brass rivets ever being deemed original. Also, the recess for the hinge should not go all the way to the edge of the badge. There was even a lot of discussion on the tiny dimples in the rivets. Even from these photos it's obvious that this badge meets none of these criteria. What have I missed? Are brass rivets considered original? My concern is letting a wolf dressed like a chicken enter the hen house. Rather than or I like an explanation to substantiate the case why someone believes an item to be genuine or not. Otherwise it just becomes "follow the leader". Often the members opinions will influence someone's decision to purchase an item. I've been down the road of what's good this week is bad the next, and I don't want it to happen to others.

If the seller offers other badges, which are clearely bad, then we can realy persume that also this one is the same.
If possible, try to get some better pictures at a good light and then we will see what we are dealing with.
I must say that the badge is perfectly done, except of the details you are refering at and I must say that for a good price (of a fake) I would gladly add it to my collection.

First time I have had a chance to look at this one with the other things going on. I have to agree that this one appears to be missing a number of things that I require on one of these to be original. Really good pictires of the side of the catch, rivets, numberbox, makermark will tell us for sure, but I would have to pass on this one.
                    best wishes,
                    jeff
