Hi Mike. I agree with Marcus in thinking that this is a Wernstine PAB. I would like to see a better picture of the hinge and catch however. I only have simi-hollow backs to compare to. However, the obverse looks Wernstine to me. This could be a massive Wernstine. I've never seen one yet but I'am sure they were produced. Phillipe or Frank will certianly weigh in on this. Is the finish as copper as it appears on the scan?

        Best wishes,

Mike, Peter is a dealer so he will ask for more as it is his living. Mind you, he has a very good reputation in our hobby. Other reputable dealers will sell for more yet. You can find very nice PAB's on our Estand if you are timely enough. In the last two days there have been two nice PAB's sold for less than the price you mention.

                Hi Guys,

Another very strange PAB featuring the common Wernstein design. Because we can't see the head this one is very difficult to judge but based up on the rest of the obverse I would also tend towards Wernstein.

But than there is the reverse, this catch type was certainly used by Wernstein and most likely that also goes for the hinge although the pictures aren't good enough to be absolutely sure.

So far so good, but than we have the Scoop out. This soft scoop out I have never before encountered on a Wernstein PAB, but is typical for PAB's from RS and EWE. Also the more orange looking Bronze is a type of finish used by RS and EWE but not by Wernstein. So a bit of an enigma this badge but original IMO.

There just isn't a day going by without discovering yet an other variant on the theme.

                  Hi all,

for me to a strange one, I would tend to think not a Wernstein, they would have had to change the whole back die to this scooped out type and seeing as we have seen wernsteins from just about the whole time period it would be pretty strange for them just to do this with a few badges. Its the standard PAB design so IMO another unknown PAB manufacturer. As Phil says the finish is more of another manufacturer type.
For me to probably an authentic wartime production. 200$ is way to much for this though, more the region 150$ would be fair.

I also think original, but impossible to tell who the maker is. We can only speculate. If you can get it for the 100.- USD you mention, definitely a good catch!

                    Cheers, Frank

                      Chet;

Just out of curiosity, how does the one pictured compare to an EWE??
                      Best regards,

                        Hi Tony,
The detaining of the grass is a bit different from a EWE as well as the hinge set up. Certinaly the obverse is pretty much of the standard PAB as mentioned. A clear shot of the eagles head and the hinge would greatly help. As others have said the color isn't right for a Wernstine PAB. Throw in the soft scooped back and who knows? I still lean towards Wernstine.

                          Hi Guys,

There really isn't much to go on if you try to keep them appart only by looking at the obverse. Who cares to give it a try?
These are only 3 mm badges that share this design I could add 3 more with different mm but than the pic would become to small.
