    Gun Show Panzer Badge

    Hello to all,

    Found this A.S. Panzer Badge today at a local gun show. Didn't really need another one of these, but since this is my favorite PAB design, and it was priced right, I figured there is no harm in having another.

    The front still looks fairly bright, but the finish is a bit speckled and has some bubbling as well. There is some copper undercoating visible at a few areas where the finish is worn.

    The reverse has darkened considerably and there is much more bubbling visible.

      Hi Tom,

      Very nice addition. I have always liked this design and maker mark as well, nice quality for a zink badge.

      Looks like the silver plating is just tarnished. Would clean right up with Tarn-X if you were so inclined, but personally I would leave it like it is.

        Thanks for the response, Tom. Didn't you pick up a die-stamped version of this badge at the MAX? That's the really rare one. I agree with you that it is best to leave the badge as is. If you shine it up too much, no one will believe it's real.
        The guy that I bought this badge from actually ruins a lot of badges and medals by putting them in a polishing tumbler. He says it "makes them sparkle like new" but it also removes the details of the badge. Fortunately, I was able to save this one before it met that fate. Yes, I have tried telling him not to do this but he doesn't listen. He also has a stiff wire-bristled brush that he says "works great on zinc." I once sold him a zinc Wound Badge that he immediately started to scrub with his wire brush, while I stood there dumbfounded.

          That would not be Tom K from the Toledo show would it?
          He usually sets up along the left wall. I watched him take a late sink pilots badge and clean it with the same small wire brush to show me how nice it cleans up.

              Hi Terry,

              I wanted to be polite and not mention a name, but what can I say. He is at the gun show in Berea this weekend. His tumbler made a zinc KVK1 look like chrome and it also eradicated most of the stippling to the cross arms. And oh what it did to an SA Sports Badge. I also saw him once take apart an original period-assembled medal bar. If I would have had the cash at the time, I would have ransomed the poor medal bar. I just stood there, unable to utter a word.
