    New "Porsche" PAB variant ?

    Hi Guys,

Wanted to share this new arrival with all of you.

As far as I know this variant of what I call the Porsche PAB was never posted on this Forum before.

To me it's some kind of a missing link. We all know the Buntmetall and Kupal variants of this unknown maker. A couple of months ago both Jan and I found a hollow zinc variant of this badge and today this massive zinc flat back arrived.

Never before have I seen such a badge and when compared with it's brothers it seems to share a little of all of them. First the general design that is a perfect match down to the flaw in the left upper tank track. With the Kupal version it shares it flatness not only on the reverse but also to the obverse. With the Kupal and the hollow zincker it shares the wrap arround hinge with the small base. And with the hollow zink badge it shares the slighty larger base plate with the round wire catch compared to the one used on the Kupal version.

Only thing not consistent with the normaly excellent quality of these badges is a die flaw visible on the right side of the wreath band.

Really would appreciate your thoughts on this PAB and also would like to know if anybody else has ever seen such a PAB.

    Thanks in advance
    KR
    Philippe

Phillipe, congratulations on the new addition to your "Porsche" family! I've yet to see one like it in the massive version wether it be silver or bronze. You are very lucky to have the number of versions that you do. All I've encountered is the hollowback types.

Congrats. on another nice find .
            Best to you,

                  Hi Mike,

Both remarkable PAB's and a type I have never seen before.

IMO both are related to what I consider the successors of the cut out swas (7 wheel) PAB's.
The cut-out swas PAB in it's first version only exist as a hollow type both in buntmetall and feinzink.
The second version of which I only have a hollow feinzink variant also exists as a massive version (sometimes with the swas partialy cut out) and now you show up with two semi hollow version of that badge.
It's absolutely amazing how many variants on the theme there are but the more you study the little buggers the more logic there can be found in these badges.

Concerning the massive Porsche PAB, I found this one purely by coincidence. One of our members send me an e-mail with an IAB in attachment for review. Instead of finding an IAB I found pictures of this PAB. He just made a mistake and send me the wrong pics. Since he lost his heart to IAB's we could work out a nice trade (for which I'm very grateful ) and so this badge arrived in Belgium.

PS: If every thing works out fine, I will post a fifth variant of the Porsche PAB in a week or two.

Nice find, Mike, but not so new, Philippe. I sold the semi-hollow type on the e-stand about three weeks ago and had it discussed before:

obverse, the non-cut out barrel is a production mistake.

Philippe, one of those wants to live in sunny southern California so badly after all the harsh winters its seen. I think you know which one

                          Hi Guys,

Philippe and Mike, nice badges, I am STILL waiting for a new item in the Christmas mail, hopefully it will arrive today. Now let me see if I have this right regarding the "7" wheel PAB

1 Bunt metall hollow back 7 wheel twin cutouts on the swaz
2 Zink hollow back 7 wheel twin cutouts on the swaz
3 Zink massive 7 wheel one cutout on the swaz
4 Zink massive 7 wheel no cutout on the swaz
5 Zink massive semi hollow back 7 wheel no cutout on the swaz

It seems you could start collecting just these for a year.

Just to finish is my two of number 3

                          Regards,

                          Anthony

                            Dear Anthony,

Almost right IMO. I guess you got a little confused because Mike posted the 7 wheel variant in this "Porsche" thread. As far as I know a Kupal version of the 7 wheel variant is not yet discovered.

That would leave us with 5 variants

Version 1 & 2 grass area with little diamond on rock and full swas cutout
Version 3 & 4 with very complex grass design but even when you can find some of them with one swas arm cut out essentialy the same
Version 5, the semi hollow one with simplified grass area

                            KR
