anti-Partisan badge

Hi Harvey, sorry for getting here late... I just thought I'd put up a pic of the obverse of a bronze bandenkampfabzeichen in comparison mate...(I can't put up an example of the reverse for comparison as this is not the hollow type). I am a great admirer of these badges, and hate to see what some of the reproduction artists do with them...It's always good to remember that Juncker was the only maker of the badge and only two die types were ever used...one early and one later (witha less detailed and slightly different, less detailed obverse...much literature exists explaining the differences) after the Juncker factory and original die was destroyed in an air raid. There is quite some literature that exists explaining the differences. Kind Regards, SCheers, Steve

Hi Steve
Three dietypes are thought to be Juncker, two halfhollow and one massive, the massive still lacking provenance. Atleast two nonjuncker firms seems to have produced a antipartisan badge during the war, but that is still fairly undocumented.
Any story to this 4 cut out? Can we see the reverse Height weigth, would be great.
Cheers Thomas

I just looked at this thread again and am happy to go along with your number of 3 Juncker die types. (I assume you mean the 'massiv', the half hollow with die flaw on the swastika near the serpent's tale and the half hollow without die flaw - though perhaps not - please confirm the types you include for me mate?)...I should have said that there were two Juncker badge-making periods vis the AP badges...By the by who are the other 2 presumed makers of the APB in your opinion? Though I know this is debatable too, what's not?
The dimensions of the piece I have shown below, the 'Massive' Juncker type, are:
1. Weight - 39,4g
2. Width - 49,1mm
3. Height - 59,5mm
All quite typical and within tolerances for this type. The reverse is shown below.
As to documentation and hence provenance, I think there is still indeed some way to go before any definitive position is reached if ever. If a position can be proven beyond doubt I would absolutely welcome it! I'm sure debate will continue! Given this, I do consider that a scientific or academic objectivity is very important to maintain in any research area and concomitant quest for historical facts...I do not ascribe this comment to you but it does seem to me that a number of people involved in the quest for facts regarding this badge have lost site of this and indeed have launched into quite a biased, almost villificatory crusade...Passion is one thing, zealotry is quite another. I certainly do not mean to offend by stating this I merely wish to ensure that a modicum of sensibility is maintained at the same time as testing reasonable hypotheses on the voracity of any badge. An example of such discussion is seen in the thread I posted here on this site testing a hypothesis regarding the Retired Pilot's badge...It has led to some very interesting and constructive discussion, and while passions have been exposed there has been no bigotry! (The link for this thread is below) ...just my two cents on this issue.

I will continue to watch the debate and excellent research on GCA and might I add I am a member of GCA and have the utmost respect for all of us on that site...It also seems to me (just a personal opinion) that some GCA members who post minimally on the WAF at times seem to have somewhat of an "us and them" thing going on...just a personal observation to which I would just remind everyone that we are all in this hobby together and there really is no sense or benefit in creating arbitrary lines of distinction or territoriality within a global web community...I know schools of thought will always develop anywhere, even inside individual institutions but we must be aware that a certain amount of scientific rigour and objectivity must prevail whatever anyone's personal views. Let's keep enjoying the interaction and quest for understanding in our fascinating hobby.Attached FilesLast edited by Steve P; 12-18-2009, 09:01 AM.Cheers, Steve
